Fire Protection

The term “Fire Protection” means measures taken to prevent fires as well as measures taken to minimize, control, or extinguish first that occur.  Client facilities should provide all necessary fire extinguishers and other fire protection equipment.  Client facilities are also responsible for providing the annual maintenance check on the fire protection equipment.

Personnel must be trained annually in the requirements of this program.  All training must be documented.

Response Procedures

In case of fire, the following procedures should be used:

  1. Summon Help

  2. Only trained personnel should operate fire extinguishers and equipment.

  3. Isolate all fuel sources and/or threatened facilities and close doors.  Normally, gas fires are extinguished by eliminating the fuel source.

  4. Do not fight fires beyond the initial stage

  5. Locate the fire fighting equipment and approach the fire from the upwind side.

  6. Never operate an extinguisher in such a manner that any part of the body is located directly in front of the fill cap.

  7. After the fire is extinguished, stand by to ensure that there are no flashbacks.

Also refer to the Emergency Preparedness and Survival section for more information.
